26/05 The Council set the 2022-2025 EU priorities for the fight against serious and organised crime through the European multi-disciplinary platform against criminal threats (EMPACT). EU member states identified 10 crime priorities: High-risk criminal networks, Cyber-attacks, Trafficking in human beings, Child sexual exploitation, Migrant smuggling, Drugs trafficking, Fraud, economic and financial crimes, Organised property crime, Environmental crime, Firearms trafficking and the production and provision of fraudulent and false documents as a common horizontal strategic goal.
26/05 Italian ‘ndrangheta boss was arrested in Brazil, two years after his escape from a prison in Uruguay while awaiting extradition to Italy. Known as “the king of cocaine,” he was wanted in Italy on charges of drug trafficking.
26/05 Sixteen people have been killed in a rebel attack in Peru. The far-left Shining Path guerrilla group with remnants still active in Peru’s coca-producing region is suspected to be behind the attack. The government considers Shining Path a criminal group engaged in drug trafficking.
27/05 Romanian authorities detected and seized 1 452 kg heroin in two in the port of Constanta with an estimated worth of €45 million and led to the arrest of 10 suspects in Belgium, the Netherlands and Romania. This is a result of a one-year investigation targeting high-profile criminal network involved in large scale drug trafficking.
29/05 Following Encrochat investigation, Dutch police and French Gendarmerie busted an industrial-sized cocaine lab in Rotterdam. More than €3.4 million in cash were been seized and nine people arrested.
