Between 27 April and 22 May 2019, SEACOP delivered Joint Maritime Control Unit (JMCU) courses to five Caribbean countries. Beneficiary countries are Saint Kitts and Nevis, the British Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana and Dominica. The mentoring was delivered by four trainers from the UK’s Border Force Agency, high specialists in the fight against maritime trafficking.
The JMCU mentoring consisted in live profiling and targeting of vessels while providing practical experiences and sharing best practices to improve team dynamics and skills learnt on the original training course delivered in each country.
This JMCU mentoring was the first mentoring for Antigua and Barbuda, the second one for St Kitts and Nevis and the British Virgin Islands, and the third mentoring in Guyana and Dominica.
The mentoring sessions also provided the opportunity for the SEACOP Regional Coordinator in the Caribbean to meet key stakeholders and beneficiaries in each country.
