From 17 to 30 July 2017, within the framework of AIRCOP, the Deputy Secretariat for the Fight Against Drug Trafficking of the Ministry of Security of Argentina organized the Operation called “Safe Vacation” at the Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires.
The operation was carried out jointly between AIRCOP Argentina and the Airport Security Police (PSA), the General Directorate of Customs, and the National Directorate of Immigration.
Through Operation “Safe Vacation”, a reinforcement of controls and checks on passengers, baggage and cargo were carried out on at least 140 flights to and from the cities of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Madrid, Frankfurt, London, Paris and Rome, among others, corresponding to more than ten airlines, and about 500 passengers of different nationalities were interviewed.
The actions carried out included the use of scanners for the control of checked baggage, control of baggage with dogs, random control of passengers, preventive controls in public areas and check-in desks, and the use of body-scanners.
The AIRCOP Project became operational in Argentina in May 2016, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Government of Argentina.
The AIRCOP Joint Airport Interdiction Task Force (JAITF), composed of officers from the Airport Security Police (PSA), the Argentine Federal Police (PFA), the Customs General Directorate (AFIP), INTERPOL Argentina and the National Directorate of Immigration, was established at the Ezeiza International Airport to combat illicit drug trafficking and related crimes at airports.
The implementation of AIRCOP strengthens the commitment of the Ministry of National Security through the Deputy Secretariat for the Fight Against Drug Trafficking, to fight against all forms of crime, particularly drug trafficking, with an emphasis on greater control of the routes of origin, transit or destination.
