- UNODC and the G5 Sahel agreed, during a joint meeting organised in Nouakchott on 18 July 2018, to strengthen their cooperation in the areas of security and justice. Support in the opening of three new Joint Airport Interdiction Task Forces (JAITF), in N’Djamena (Chad), Nouakchott (Mauritania), Agadez (Niger), as part of the AIRCOP program was also examined.
- Since October 2016, the public prosecutor’s office and the police in Wuppertal (Germany), with the support of Europol, conducted an investigation against an international organised crime group suspected of trafficking large quantities of cocaine and amphetamine and cultivating marijuana. Investigators have calculated that this criminal group has distributed around 1.5 tonnes of cocaine and/or amphetamine throughout Europe over the past two years.
- Peru arrested more than 50 people, the majority Colombian, as part of an operation against drug trafficking in a jungle border province where dissident former Marxist FARC rebels have reportedly taken refuge.
- After a four-month-long intelligence operation conducted by troops from the Colombian Army’s Second Division, the Special Counternarcotics Brigade, the Colombian Air Force (FAC, in Spanish), and the Attorney General’s Office, a cocaine lab of the National Liberation Army (ELN, in Spanish) has been dismantled, in Tibú, department of Norte de Santander.
