A mentoring course is being delivered by SEACOP in Antigua, targeted at eight officers of the Joint Maritime Control Unit of the country, which are drawn from from Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (Coastguard), Customs and Excise, Royal Antigua Police Force and ONDCP.
This is the 5th JMCU mentoring event for Antigua, which has benefited from SEACOP training since 2015. This time, the activity was supported by both Antigua Maritime Intelligence Unit and regional MIUs in targeting vessels of interest.
In parallel, SEACOP Regional Coordinator for thee Caribbean Karen Clarke conducted the first National Steering Committee in Antigua on Tuesday 30 August 2022. This was held at the Ministry for JusticeĀ and Legal Affairs and chaired by the Permanent Secretary Ms Stacey Gregg-Paige. The event was attended by senior management from all the agencies participating in SEACOP.
Discussions over a Memorandum of Understanding have also been ongoing, foreseeing an incoming signature between both parties.
