Last week, SEACOP organised its first official activity in Dakar!
Led by an officer from the Coast Guard Directorate of the French customs, the mentoring activity involved 10 Senegalese police officers, customs officers and gendarmes exercising their functions within the Joint Maritime Control Unit of Dakar.
The officers were able to strengthen their theoretical and practical knowledge in different areas, including reading plans of ships and identifying caches that could allow the concealment of large quantities of illicit products (in cargo ships and Ro-Ro in particular).
💡This activity takes place in a particularly sensitive context as criminal organisations seek to smuggle large quantities of illicit goods into #West Africa using boats with specially fitted caches.
Last October, 2 tons of #cocaine originating in South America hidden in a double bottom of the boat “la rosa” were seized in the port of Dakar.
