Last June, personnel of the Directorate of Criminal Intelligence and Investigations of the Naval Prefecture and MIU personnel of Argentina, in conjunction with the National Gendarmerie Anti-Drug Squad seized 1547 kilograms of cocaine leading to the capture of 6 people. A significant amount of cash and firearms were also seized.
The important maritime and land operation was carried out with the international collaboration of Spanish prosecutors, the National Police of Spain and the Federal Police of Brazil.
The work of the Naval Prefecture of Argentina has been supported by SEACOP through a number of theoretical training and at the operational level, in order to strengthen the exchange of information, international cooperation and intelligence gathering.
The Directorate of Criminal Intelligence and Investigations of the Naval Prefecture, led by the Prefect General Guillermo José Gimenez, has strategically deployed Maritime Intelligence Units throughout Argentina, coordinating them from Buenos Aires (Central MIU).
“The Directorate of Criminal Intelligence and Investigations of the Naval Prefecture is doing an excellent job throughout the country in the fight against drugs,” said SEACOP Regional Coordinator for Latin America Alfredo Diaz Sanchez, adding “it is important to count on the inter-institutional support that SEACOP promotes and is working successfully with both Customs and the Federal Police.“
The MIUs’ work is focused on intelligence gathering in the maritime domain.
