On March 15th and 16th, the SEACOP and MCBS projects, funded by the European Union, organised a meeting in Santo Domingo to analyse the main Caribbean region threats regarding the maritime context.
During these days, local institutions with competence in the fight against illicit maritime trafficking, foreign organisations and agencies, different member countries, MAOC-N and Frontex, analysed threats in the Caribbean area to develop an integrated and shared strategy to combat illicit maritime trafficking and tackle criminal structures operating in the region.
As a result of the collaboration between the European Union (EU) and the Dominican Republic, on march 17th, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between SEACOP and the Dominican Republic Government, represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Head of the EU Delegation in that country.
This reiterates the support of the EU to the local authorities efforts against maritime trafficking, and shed light on the keenness of the authorities of Dominican republic to act against illicit maritime trafficking.
