SEACOP is pleased to participate in the European Maritime Day 2023 #EMD2023 !
The EMD is the annual two-day event during which Europe’s maritime community meet to network, discuss and outline joint action on maritime affairs and sustainable blue economy. IT is the place where ‘Ocean Leaders Meet’. It provides an engaging and completely interactive experience to catch up on the current state of play on a broad range of issues concerning the blue economy and the marine environment and to discuss ways of moving forward. It features a large number of inspirational speakers, thematic sessions, stakeholder workshops and pitch sessions organised by stakeholders and the European Commission. The EMD targets professionals from businesses, governments, public institutions, NGOs and academia as well as EU citizens interested in the sea.
This year, SEACOP is featured in the European Maritime Days 2023, in Brest, France, where it is showcasing the importance of maritime security and cooperation among stakeholders from various sectors.
Dominique Bucas, Project Director of EU-funded SEACOP, emphasised the importance of SEACOP’s participation in the European Maritime Days 2023, saying: “SEACOP seized this invaluable opportunity to share insights and experiences in combating drug trafficking and related illicit activities across its three regions of implementation (Latin America, the Caribbean and West Africa).
The project’s presence at #EMD2023 has enabled us to be more visible to relevant experts, authorities, and organisations dedicated to maritime security. Through our collaborative efforts, we aim to contribute to the strengthening of the collective response against criminal networks that exploit the maritime environment.”
SEACOP’s showcase in the Expertise France’s stall seeks to feature its comprehensive framework, including the successful creation and reinforcement of maritime intelligence units and joint maritime control units across Latin America, the Caribbean and West Africa; the improvement of information sharing systems; and capacity building activities.
He added: “SEACOP’s involvement in the EMD 2023, as part of the broader Expertise France-led and EU Global Illicit Flow Programme initiatives will not only foster crucial partnerships but also generate valuable insights to enhance our operations. By working together with our international counterparts, we are bolstering maritime security and
safeguarding our coastal communities against the threats posed by organised crime.”
As European Maritime Days 2023 concluded, Mr. Bucas noted: “SEACOP remains dedicated to our mission of combating transnational organised crime. Through our
continued partnerships and participation in esteemed events like European Maritime Days, we are actively shaping the future of maritime security, making our seas safer for all.”
EMD 2023 will serve as a catalyst for collaboration and knowledge exchange, further reinforcing SEACOP’s mission to combat transnational organised crime in the maritime domain.
SEACOP, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France and FIIAPP, has been at the forefront of combating drug trafficking in the maritime domain. The initiative’s collaborative approach has facilitated the exchange of intelligence and the development of operational techniques to intercept drug shipments effectively. It has also prioritised capacity building, empowering law enforcement agencies and strengthening regional cooperation.
