15/09/2020 – A former DEA agent who was active in Colombia and was facing corruption charges in the US has pleaded guilty.
17/09/2020 – The Albanian-speaking cocaine trafficking organisation “Kompania Bello” was taken down in an international operation named “Los Blancos”. The operation was supported by EUROJUST and EUROPOL. On 15 September 2020, simultaneous raid in several counties in Europe lead to the arrest of 20 suspected members of the Kompania Bello. This operation is the result of a five-year investigation.
18/09/2020 – The National Crime Agency, in a control delivery operation with the Netherlands and Belgium, seized over a tonne of heroin and morphine derivative. The drug was seized in a container ship docked at the port of Felixstowe and was hidden in bags of rice.
18/09/2020 – The investigative committee of the French Senate on cocaine trafficking from French Guyana has called for ambitious actions against cocaine trafficking from French Guyana to Metropolitan France. The report explains the modus operandi of traffickers exploiting the social vulnerability of French citizens living in French Guyana. It is estimated that flights from Cayenne to Paris would carry between 20 and 30 ”mules” each time. The ingested cocaine would exclusively come from Colombia, with passengers transiting via Suriname.
19/09/2020 – The port of Antwerp will be equipped with a new security system in early 2021 called “Certified Pick-up”. With this system, it will be harder for traffickers to access the containers at the port terminals.
