In the efforts to strengthen capacities of international airports to detect and intercept illicit commodities, on 7 June 2024 AIRCOP delivered a mentoring session on recognising and detecting synthetic drugs at Tocumen Cargo Airport, a major international freight hub located in Panama.
Sixteen officers from various national law enforcement agencies, including Customs, National Migration Service, National Aeronaval Service, National Police’s Directorate of Intelligence and Anti-Drugs and Airport Security, participated in the training.
The event covered drug profiling, document analysis, smuggling and concealment methods and countermeasures specifically related to cargo. This mentoring aimed to enhance technical capabilities of frontline officers to combat illicit trafficking with focus on synthetic drugs.
Participants appreciated the opportunity to improve their skills and stressed the importance of continued training and inter-agency collaboration. With this capacity building activity, AIRCOP reaffirms its commitment to support national authorities in their fight against organised crime and related drug trafficking.
