This week, the Joint Maritime Control Unit operating in the port of Dakar 🇸🇳 (or UMCCN) was involved in the seizure of ammunition with an estimated value of almost 5 million Euros.
Over the past two years, the SEACOP project has made a significant contribution to the training of Senegalese police, gendarmerie and customs officers assigned to the UMCCN, who have benefited from numerous training courses in the field of maritime intelligence, ship searches and the targeting and control of containers.
The attention of Senegalese Customs and the UMCCN was drawn to the particularly long and unjustified stay of the vessel at anchor off the port of Dakar. Placed in three containers themselves loaded on board the ship EOLIKA flying the flag of Guyana 🇬🇾 from Italy 🇮🇹, the batches of ammunition were intended to supply handguns and AK47 type machine guns.
