On 13 December, Barbados signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the implementation of the Seaport Cooperation project (SEACOP). The Ambassador of the European Union attended the event.
Barbados joining SEACOP highlights the extension of the project into a number of countries in the Caribbean region, thus emphasizing the need to adapt to new trends and to the changes in cocaine trafficking routes and organized crime.
Funded by the EU Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) and implemented by the Spanish International Cooperation Agency Fundación Internacional y para Iberoamérica de Administración y Políticas Públicas (FIIAPP), SEACOP aims at improving law enforcement agencies capacity in monitoring maritime trafficking and detecting illicit maritime cargoes in selected countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
