On Tuesday 4 October 2022, a seizure of 800 kg of cocaine and 5.8 kgs of cannabis was made on board of MV Elizabeth, registered in Trinidad and Tobago.
The operation was supported by members of the St Kitts and Nevis Joint Maritime Control Unit trained by the SEACOP project, as well as three Maritime Intelligence Units from the region, also supported by SEACOP.
This shows the importance of inter-regional cooperation and information sharing in the fight against illicit maritime trafficking, two key aspects promoted by the SEACOP project.
The contents of the seizure were concealed within the walls of the cabin of the vessel, and are suspected to be worth: an estimated street value of approximately $26,400,000 for the cocaine and $57,777 for the cannabis.
The boat crew, which consisted of five nationals of Trinidad and Tobago and two nationals of Grenada and Carriacou were taken into custody.
