The mission of the Cocaine Route Monitoring and Support (CORMS) on seaport cooperation’s state of play in five Latin American countries kicked-off in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the team attended the second Regional Workshop for Maritime Intelligence Units (MIUs) organised by the SEACOP project from March 19 to 21.
The event was opened by a representative of the EU delegation to Argentina, the head of the Dirección Nacional de Investigaciones sobre el Narcotráfico and an official from the Argentinian Ministry of Security. Bringing together representatives of SEACOP beneficiary and associate countries (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guyana, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago) in Latin America, the workshop aimed to reinforce regional cooperation, information sharing and the review of best practices between MIUs.
CORMS was established in 2011 to increase the synergies between all the components of the Cocaine Route Programme (CRP) as well as to improve coordination with other initiatives in the fight against organised crime and drug trafficking. The next step of the CORMS mission is a monitoring visit to Brazil.
