CRIMJUST and the Brazilian Federal Prosecution Services gathered on 15-19 October 2018 in Vienna, Austria, at the 9th Conference of the Parties to the Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (COP9) to announce the implementation of joint working groups aimed at fighting transnational crime in Latin America.

CRIMJUST provided the audience with information on the correlation between Brazilian criminal groups and the regional threat of drug trafficking in Latin America. The project’s Global Programme Coordinator, Mr. Marco Teixeira, also insisted on the importance of cooperating at the regional level to conduct joint operations to tackle the expansion of criminal activity.
The Brazilian representatives outlined the country’s current efforts in coordinating border authorities with the relevant prosecutors. Moreover, a representative from the Argentinian authorities advocated the launch of joint investigations in strategic areas.
