From 4 to 14 April 2023, CRIMJUST held a series of briefings for European Union (EU) Delegations covering the relevant regions of engagement. These briefings provided an overview of CRIMJUST and informed the EU Delegations of CRIMJUST’s strategic framework and intervention logic for the period 2023 to 2025, as the programme launches its third phase of implementation.
The first briefing was held on 4 April 2023, for EU Delegations in Africa, followed by another one on 12 April, for Delegations in South America, and the third briefing on 14 April 2023, for Delegations in Central America and the Caribbean. These briefings were conducted online, and they provided an opportunity for CRIMJUST to engage with EU Delegations in beneficiary countries in view of better alignment and coordination of its technical assistance focusing on investigating and prosecuting illicit trafficking and related organised crime.
CRIMJUST, implemented jointly by UNODC and INTERPOL, was launched in 2016 to support countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa to strengthen criminal justice responses along transatlantic trafficking routes. CRIMJUST currently combines capacity-building, technical assistance to enhance institutional integrity and inter-regional cooperation, with the development of strategic knowledge to encourage evidence-based decision making. The third phase of CRIMJUST is notably characterised by the project’s geographical expansion to the Caribbean, an increased emphasis on financial investigations, and mainstreaming human rights-based and gender-sensitive approaches in combatting organised crime.
