From 22 to 25 May 2023, UNODC under the framework of CRIMJUST delivered a training of trainers and a cascade training on Ethics and Integrity to the Judicial Police and Members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Guinea Bissau. The two consecutive trainings were delivered with the aim of supporting Guinea Bissau in its efforts to prevent and combat corruption by strengthening the capacity of its institutions to prevent, detect, and combat fraud, remedy deviations, irregularities and other unlawful acts committed.
The training of trainers which covered the topic of ethics and integrity was held from 22 to 23 May and counted with the participation of 11 judicial police officers. This training addressed the fundamental values of the police (such as impartiality, transparency, honesty, and accountability). It also enabled the sharing of experiences and the strengthening of the accountability of the institutions to prevent corruption.
On the other hand, the cascade training took place between 24 and 25 May and was attended by 15 magistrates from the public prosecutor’s office. The aim of these sessions was the passing the expertise on ethics acquired by the trainers initially trained during the training of trainers’ sessions that took place on the 6th and 7th of December 2022 in Bissau. A theoretical and practical component were present throughout the session, and they were based on the experience of the trainers and the participants regarding the mechanisms and procedures adopted by prosecutors to prevent, detect, and eliminate fraud and corruption.
Both capacity building events helped to consolidate, deepen, and clarify the issues addressed concerning ethics, integrity, vulnerabilities, threats, and risks associated with corruption.
