From 26-29 August, CRIMJUST presented its activities at the 2019 Law Enforcement Advisor Meeting in Vienna, Austria. This annual event is organised by the Implementation Support Section of the UNODC Organised Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch. It is a forum for key agencies involved in the fight against illicit trafficking and organised crime to share intelligence, exchange on best practices and reflect upon lessons learnt.
CRIMJUST provided an overview of its priorities and activities. It underscored the extent of the synthetic opioid crisis in West Africa and the challenges posed by organised crime in Mexico. Finally, it highlighted the importance of mainstreaming gender in law enforcement initiatives.
This event was the opportunity for CRIMJUST and other law enforcement agencies to better understand each other’s respective organisational mandate, actions and challenges encountered. It proved successful in enhancing coordination, avoiding duplication of initiatives and identifying opportunities for further inter-agency collaboration.
