The Nigeria Guardian has reported that a 32 year man died at Abuja airport on 5 July in what appears to have been leakage from an ingested cocaine pellet. The man was booked on the Ethiopian Airline flight to China via Addis Ababa when he collapsed in the departure hall. The Port Health officials who attended to him alerted a Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency officer before taking him to the hospital, where 50 pellets containing 1.2 kg of cocaine were removed from his stomach. The tragic death is a timely reminder of the risk taken by drug couriers, the indifference of trafficking organizations and the vitality of growing momentum behind the transshipment of illicit drugs from West Africa to the Far East.
