The XIV Annual General Meeting of the GAFILAT was held in Panama City on May 10-11, with funding from the GAFILAT-EU Project, organized by the Financial Analysis Unit (UAF) of Panama.
Focal points from the 17 GAFILAT member countries assisted, along with the focal points from Spain and France; a representative from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), a representative from the Organization of American States (OAS) and a representative from the GAFILAT Secretariat were also in attendance. The opening remarks were provided by the Attorney General of the Republic of Panama, as well as the Head of the Directorate of Judicial Investigation of the National Police of Panama.
During the meeting, the progress on the working plan was discussed, especially on the Operational Handbook on Asset Investigation and the Validation Mechanisms on information exchanged through the Asset Recovery Network (RRAG) platform.
On the other hand, it was discussed how the exchange of information by the environment of the electronic platform can be more effective and timely, so as to strengthen the development of statistics of the use of the network.
Furthermore, the Investigative Police of Chile presented a short video, produced in-house, explaining in general terms what is RRAG and its usefulness for carrying out investigation oriented to the identification and recovery of criminal assets.
