From 4 to 8 July 2022, an in-person National Training course was organised in Abuja, Nigeria under the COLIBRI action, for the benefit of national administrations with capacities in monitoring and controlling general aviation, namely: Customs, Police, the NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency), and the NCAA (Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority). The 11th national training gathered 43 participants, who worked closely with the group of experts. From the regulatory framework to convention, notions and best practices were presented and discussed in a proactive and participative environment. On the last day, Friday 8, a practical exercise with aircraft was coordinated by the NCS and carried out by the COLIBRI experts at the Nigeria Customs Service Airwing, in Abuja, within the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, to ensure a good command of the activities related to this mode of transport.
The course was inaugurated by Mr. Shadrach Haruna Esq, Secretary of the NDLEA; Mr. Bede Anyanwu, Deputy Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Strategic Research and Policy Department; and by the Representative of the EU Delegation in Nigeria, Ms. Eleni Zerzelidou, International Aid/Cooperation Officer Migration, Drugs and Organized Crime. They pointed out the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, and that this cooperation shall be promoted and improved.
