Last week (23-27 Sept 2024) SEACOP organised an advanced training in narcotics search on vessels in Buenos Aires, aimed at empowering the authorities of Argentina from the Prefectura Naval, Customs, and Federal Police to enhance their skills in maritime security.
Attended by 12 participants, the course was delivered by experts from GOIT of the Spanish Police. It combined theoretical insights with practical exercises on vessels, focusing on a systematic, methodical approach to inspections while ensuring safety protocols.
Working in two inter-agency teams, participants carried out intelligence gathering and analysis, role assignment, vessel plan reading, preservation of evidence, and the necessary documentation. They also learned the importance of briefing and debriefing processes for operational success.
“This training really showed the importance of search methodology, safety in confined spaces, and proper inter-agency collaboration, which clearly improve the effectiveness of vessels narcotics searches,” said SEACOP Regional Coordinator for Latin America Alfredo Diaz Sanchez.
Special thanks to the Naval Prefecture Training Centre for Intelligence and Criminal Investigation (CCIC) and the Ministry of Security of the Nation for their continued support.
