On 19 February 2024, SEACOP launched the second chapter of its ‘Case Studies and Threats’, a webinar series aimed at bringing together partners fighting against transnational crime at sea across Latin America and the Caribbean.
With over 100 participants, this first module garnered the interest of representatives from Argentina, Brazil Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Each country brought forward their unique experiences on the topic of emerging maritime threats, showcasing the need for a truly collaborative effort in this domain.
Started in early 2023, the Case Studies and Threats series has been increasingly successful. With criminal organisations identified as the paramount threat, the focus of this new year will be to dissect the strategic manoeuvres of organised crime.
“This new phase of the case studies aims to strengthen our common understanding of the prevailing threats, building upon the foundation laid in 2023 where countries collaboratively shared insights from investigative cases to improve their processes to combat illicit maritime trafficking” explained SEACOP Regional Coordinator for Latin America Alfredo Diaz Sanchez.
