23.07.24 – ‘Ring and bring’ drug dealers given jail sentences. A gang who “flooded” three communities with heroin and crack cocaine have been given prison sentences of more than 14 years. Ringleader Josh Ashton and “workers” Logan Day, Billy Alexander and Adie Cliff ran a “ring and bring” drugs line supplying Conisbrough, Denaby and Mexborough, near Doncaster. The “Ash Line” service had a number for customers to contact when they wanted to have drugs delivered to them. South Yorkshire Police arrested Day, Alexander and Cliff in November last year and they were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on 19 July.
26.07.24 – ‘Sophisticated’ organised crime gang trafficked cocaine and cannabis to Aberystwyth. Five people have been found guilty or admitted to conspiring to supply cocaine and cannabis as Dyfed-Powys Police continues its efforts to dismantle organised crime gangs. Officers seized cocaine with a street value of more than £400,000 from gang members, who continually changed tactics to avoid arrest. Six defendants have appeared in court in the latest phase of Dyfed-Powys Police’s Operation Burleigh, which sought to disrupt the trafficking and onward supply of class A and B drugs into Aberystwyth, with all but one admitting their charges or being found guilty by a jury.
26.07.24 – Organised crime poses a major threat to SA’s stability and is prevalent in several major cities. With South Africa’s major cities, including Pretoria (81.8) at number two, Durban (80.9) at number three, Johannesburg ( 80.7) at number four, Port Elizabeth at number eight, and Cape Town (73.5) at 16, ranked as the most crime-ridden cities on the continent, Interpol’s Dr Jurgen Stock says more needs to be done to ensure stability of communities. Crime Index by City 2024 (Numbeo’s crime index) has also revealed that Pretoria is the second most dangerous city in the world while Joburg is ranked fourth. Stock, during his meeting with National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola in Pretoria on Wednesday, said organised crime is a threat to the stability of communities.
27.07.24 – The alleged Mexican drug cartel bosses arrested or extradited in recent years. Federal agents arrested two Mexican alleged cartel bosses on Thursday, including Joaquin Guzmán López, the son of infamous cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, in one of the biggest victories for US law enforcement in recent years. The two detained men belong to the Sinaloa cartel, one of the world’s most powerful drug-trafficking organizations, thought to be responsible for the trafficking of vast amounts of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and fentanyl into the US.
27.07.24 – SAPS committed to dealing with transnational organised crime. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has assured citizens of their safety following the discovery of an illegal military camp in Mpumalanga. On Friday, a multi-disciplinary operation made up of SAPS and various structures arrested 95 Libyan nationals after uncovering the camp on a farm in White River. Police also discovered contraband, drugs, and military-grade equipment during their operation.
