- According to the 2016 World Drug Report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the number of people in treatment for cocaine use remains high in Latin America and the Caribbean. However the UNODC has pointed out that three out of every four people in Eastern and South/Eastern Europe are in treatment for opioid use.
- The EU Member States, EU Bodies and third parties have joined forces with Europol and carried out Operation CICONIA ALBA to counter organised crime networks involved in labour exploitation. Law enforcement officers from all over the world have arrested 140 fraud suspects that were also involved in othercrimes such as drug trafficking, cybercrime and terrorism.
- Two suspects have been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in South Africa after disembarking from Sao Paulo. The passengers had swallowed 91 cocaine bullets and were placed under medical surveillance.
- The Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has informed that more than 900,000 kilogrammes of illicit drugs have been seized from drug traffickers in 2015. The agency’s chairman, informed that drugs confiscated include cannabis, psychotropic substances, ephedrine, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and amphetamine.
