- 72 people have been accused of operating a multi million-dollar drug-trafficking ring in Puerto Rico. Reportedly, the suspects were conspiring to distribute marihuana, heroin, cocaine and cocaine base. The group would have generated $27 million, according to the authorities.
- 250 kilos of cocaine were found by the Costa Rican Police on a container ship that arrived from Colombia, as reported the Public Security Ministry. The narcotics were hidden on the exterior of the ship. No arrests have been made so far.
- Mexican and South American drug cartels have started to make more and more use of ‘narco-submarines’ for the trafficking of drugs. According to US Foreign Military Studies Office, 80% of drugs smuggled in US in 2012 were conducted by maritime routes and 30% via narco-submarine.
