- G20 leaders pledged during the G20 Summit in Hamburg to focus their efforts on countering terrorism and transnational organised crime as a source of financing of terrorist activities. These efforts would include a better exchange of information between intelligence, law enforcement and judicial authorities as well as closer cooperation in the detection and identification of transit and destination countries for terrorist and criminal networks.
- The Nigerian National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) revealed that more than 77.000 persons were arrested for drug trafficking crimes between 2006 and 2015 and that drug trafficking generates about $320 billion per annum, making it the most lucrative market in the country. Nigeria remains a major transit and destination country for drug and human trafficking in the region.
- The U.S. Coast Guard seized more than 2 tonnes of cocaine worth $60 million during a joint operation in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Three vessels were intercepted and three individuals were arrested on drug charges.
