Two Nigerian men were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Eastern Nigeria, and accused of drug trafficking and unlawful importation of 9.975 kg of heroin. The two drug traffickers were sentenced to 40 and 15 years of prison. The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ahmadu Giade, declared that this punishment would help to deter others from getting involved in this type of criminal activity.
In the last month, more than 20 Interpol wanted alleged drug traffickers have been arrested in Colombia and will be extradited to the countries that seek their prosecution. In 2015 only, Colombian anti-narcotics police has arrested 66 criminals wanted by the Interpol for crimes related to drug production and trafficking.
US, Spanish and Italian agents arrested 38 narcotraffickers and seized approximately 4 tons of cocaine, during “Santa Fe” operation that took place in Calabria, Southern Italy. Thirty-four people were affiliated to the ‘Ndrangheta, a mafia organization based in Calabria. Reportedly, the cocaine came from Colombia and arrived in Italy through Spain.
Nine people have been sentenced to federal prison as accused of being affiliated to an organized crime ring in Rio Grande Valley dealing with drugs and money laundering. Investigators also discovered at least nine bank accounts that the criminals used to funnel illicit bulk currency in South Texas.
Forty-one members of a notorious criminal gang, known as “The Columbia Point Dawgs”, were arrested in a major federal, state and local drug trafficking operation in Boston area. The police also seized several weapons, vehicles, drugs and US$ 1.5 million in cash.
The Indonesian Court rejected the final appeal of Serge Atlaoui, the French national facing execution for drug offenses. An execution date has not been announced yet. Atlaoui was arrested in 2005 in a secret drugs factory outside Jakarta and accused of being a “chemist” at the site.
