On August 27th, trainers from Brazil Federal Police delivered an intensive session on risk profiling of vessels and key maritime routes, sharing their expertise with local colleagues as part of their efforts to fight drug trafficking at sea.
Meanwhile, on August 26-29, SEACOP trainer from DIRANDRO, Peru, was chosen by DEVIDA to conduct a training in Trujillo for local institutions involved in drug trafficking prevention and enforcement.
Both trainings are part of our monthly Training of Trainers Replica initiative, implemented across Latin America
A bit of background
Earlier in July 2024, SEACOP organised a Training of Trainers on Maritime Intelligence across its three regions of implementation, with the Latin American session taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There, 18 officials from various institutions and countries received training in pedagogy and maritime intelligence. This ToT equipped them with the skills to develop, adapt and deliver this curriculum within their own national contexts.
🗣 Why is this an important step?
“These collaborative efforts are really a testimony of SEACOP’s commitment to local ownership of the project’s good practices. We want partners to be able to adapt the knowledge and skills presented by our specialised trainers to their own challenges and contexts,” explains SEACOP Regional Coordinator for Latin America Alfredo Diaz Sanchez
“Threats in Ecuador are different from those in Peru, Brazil or Paraguay, despite similarities. As a result, local trainers need to benefit from this knowledge sharing and regional cooperation but also to ensure that the methodology and good practices they learned about are replicated in a sustainable manner within their national teams.”
