This week, SEACOP organised a training for members of the Joint Maritime Control Unit of Saint Lucia, which aimed to equip them with the knowledge and skills pertaining to the control of ships of various types.
The sessions, both theoretical and practical exercises -as displayed in the yacht search pictures- revolved around: control methodology, security, preservation of traces and clues (forensic), understanding of the environment and construction of ships, as well as implementation of suitable search techniques.
The training was delivered by a French expert from the Coast Guard service of the French customs, for 8 trainees from the customs and the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
The course will be followed by a week of mentoring, supervised by a trainer of the HEADQUARTERS JAMAICA DEFENCE FORCE and SEACOP’s Deputy Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean.
