On March 31st, SEACOP organised a closing ceremony celebrating the end of the Joint Maritime Control Unit advanced training in Lomé, #Togo 🇹🇬
The training course, which benefited 16 participants from Togo’s police, customs and maritime affairs, sought to provide the agents of the Joint Maritime Control Unit with in-depth skills on vessels rummage to strengthen the country’s fight against illicit maritime traffic.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Regional Coordinator for West Africa, Akizi-Egnim AKALA insisted on the devastating consequences of drug trafficking and other traffics on health, socio-economic conditions and the environment.
He called on countries of the region to further collaborate on matters of maritime security to best combat organised criminal groups operating around their respective ports.
