Last week (2-6 December 2024) SEACOP organised a Maritime Intelligence Unit training in the Maritime Prefecture of Benin, targeted at 18 participants, including one woman, from police, customs, navy and maritime prefecture.
What was the objective of this training?
– To enhance participants’ ability to work as a team for effective maritime information processing.
– To develop ship profiling skills to generate actionable intelligence for vessel inspections in Benin.
“It is crucial that these professionals master methodologies and tools for collecting, analysing, and processing maritime information to produce intelligence, as it will allow them to regularly profile ships and support vessel search teams in the most efficient manner,” explained Regional Coordinator for West Africa Akizi Akala
Facilitated by experts from Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre (Narcotics) – MAOC (N) and DNRED France, the training was officially opened and closed by Rear Admiral Fernand Ahoyo, Maritime Prefect, alongside Juan Luis Barbolla Casas, Team Leader for Governance and Economy Cooperation from the Delegation of the European Union to Benin.
