On Tuesday 20 June 2023, SEACOP partook in the National Steering Committee meeting with the government of St. Lucia.
Chaired by Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ricky Quinlan, the meeting was attended by SEACOP Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean Karen Clarke and Deputy Regional Coordinator Jason Kelshall. SEACOP Project Director, Dominique Bucas, was also in attendance online.
The meeting proved to be incredibly productive and filled with promising discussions. The presence of representatives from both the police and customs, the two beneficiary agencies of the SEACOP project, added significant value to the gathering as their expertise and commitment are invaluable for the success of this partnership.
During the meeting, both parties discussed various avenues to enhance the coordination and effectiveness of joint efforts to fight illicit maritime trafficking. The discussions also revolved around new strategies, actionable steps, and opportunities for capacity building within the agencies involved with the shared goal of strengthening the fight against organised crime and related groups involved in maritime drug trafficking.
This steering committee is the second held between SEACOP and the government of St Lucia.
