A week of mentoring for the Joint Maritime Control Unit of Barbados 🇧🇧 kicked off yesterday in Bridgetown. Aimed at strengthening the capacities of the JMCU personnel, the mentoring follows a 5-day training course delivered last week by SEACOP’s Deputy Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean Benoit Verniquet.
Â
“We started last week at the Coastguard Training Centre at HMBS Pelican in Bridgetown, where we covered a number of theoretical aspects related to vessels searches. Operational activities were also held at the port and marinas of Bridgetown,” he explained.
Â
In the coming days, live exercises will be organised in various locations, on the basis of intelligence provided by the country’s Maritime Intelligence Unit.Â
Â
“Both courses seek to reinforce the knowledge and skills of the 12 participating officers drawn from Barbados’ Police , Customs and Coastguard,” he added.
Â
Established in 2015, the Barbadian JMCU had not received mentoring since May 2019.Â
