From 14 – 16 March, SEACOP was in Argentina fortifying its partnership with the country’s authorities with EU support. Starting with a briefing with EU Ambassador to the country Amador Sánchez Rico, our Project Director Dominique Bucas and Regional Coordinator Alfredo Diaz Sanchez later met with Deputy Head of the Delegation, Eran Nagan and key national government authorities and project collaborators.
So … Why is this visit so important?
🇪🇺 A Partnership Rooted in Commitment
Argentina stands as a crucial ally in the SEACOP network, showcasing its dedication through the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding by the Interior Minister in November 2022 and fostering a close-knit relationship with the Prefectura Naval Argentina .
This was demonstrated when Argentina hosted the trans-regional TRIG meeting at the naval intelligence school facilities in September 2023, cementing its role as a strong supporter of maritime and port security.
📜 A New Chapter in March 2024
This week marks a significant phase in our collaboration, with Argentina and SEACOP formalising their commitment through the signing of a memorandum of understanding to curb maritime trafficking. This move will not only strengthen our bond but also renews Argentina’s vow to continue being a leader in the fight against drug trafficking.
Martin Verrier, Secretary of the Fight Against Drug Trafficking and Organised Crime of 🇦🇷 emphasised, “We renew Argentina’s commitment as a participant in the multiagency and multinational port and maritime security programme. Together we are stronger!”
