On Monday, Trinidad and Tobago’s Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), in close collaboration with St Vincent’s Maritime Intelligence Unit (MIU), realised a seizure of a number of illicit items on board of a pirogue.
Earlier in October, TOCU had received intelligence suggesting that a drug and firearms trafficking network operating in Trinidad was preparing to leave to St Vincent where they were expected to transport firearms (AR 15), ammunitions and cocaine. This information was developed into an intelligence package and passed to the St Vincent MIU.
Consequently, the TOCU and St Vincent forces proceeded with the operation and, on October 15th, St Vincent authorities seized a pirogue that revealed the presence of
✔︎ 20 rounds of 5.56
✔︎49 rounds of 7.62 ammunition
✔︎ 16 small transparent packets containing 330 grams of crack cocaine (for an estimated street value of $ 460,000.00TT)
The four Trinidadian nationals on board have been arrested and charged for the related offences.
