On Tuesday 30 January 2024, the SEACOP-supported Royal Montserrat Police Service successfully intercepted a small yacht carrying 19 individuals in a suspected case of human trafficking.
Alerted by intelligence services, the Royal Montserrat Police Marine Unit, which was established with SEACOP’s support in 2015 and has continued to receive training from the project ever since, swiftly responded to the alert and discovered 19 individuals on board the vessel.
The group, comprising men, women, and children, was safely recovered and transported to Little Bay for further processing.
This successful interception, which was facilitated by the collaboration between various agencies, is a testimony to the importance of close cooperation between local and regional partners to ensure the safety of human trafficking victims orchestrated by organised criminal groups.
📞 The Royal Montserrat Police Service called for anyone possessing information regarding this incident to contact them as they collaborate with the Immigration Department to determine the circumstances surrounding the vessel’s arrival in Montserrat.
