Earlier this week, SEACOP contributed to the successful seizure of 134 kilograms of cocaine in Panama. The seizure was made possible by the collaborative work between the Maritime Intelligence Unit of SEACOP in Ecuador, the FRONTEX agency, the Panamanian CCP Unit and the Colombian and Panamanian authorities.
Intelligence was initially gathered by the MIU of Ecuador, related to the contamination of a vessel that left Ecuador. The intelligence was coordinated with the Colombian and Panamanian authorities with the aim of preventing a significant amount of cocaine from reaching the European market.
The FRONTEX Agency successfully supported the maritime operation, and subsequently the Panamanian CCP Unit proceeded to profile the contaminated container.
The maritime operation involved members of the Ecuadorian Navy, who are part of the MIU SEACOP in Ecuador, the Colombian National Police – Ports and Airports Area of the Antarctic Directorate, and members of the Panamanian SENAN, who are part of the UNODC CCP. The quantity of cocaine seized amounted to 134 kilograms, which was concealed in two packages.
