On Friday 12 August 2022, SEACOP wrapped up a mentoring session for members of the Joint Maritime Control Unit of Ghana.
Focusing on ship searches in the ports of Tema and Takoradi, the activity was opened in the presence of the Director General of the Ghana Drug Enforcement Agency on 8 August 2022.
The mentoring aimed to strengthen the skills and knowledge of the JMCU personnel in their fight against illicit maritime trafficking.
Speaking about the mentoring, SEACOP Deputy Regional Coordinator for West Africa, Akizi Egnim Akala said: “SEACOP believes South-South cooperation is of paramount importance and therefore makes it a priority in its activities. In this light, the weeklong mentoring will be delivered by two South African experts in maritime security.”
