The Dominican Republic’s National Drug Control Office (DNCD), AIRCOP, the Support Program to Combat Organized Crime in the Caribbean Region (ALCORCA) and the Dominican Republic Crime and Security Cooperation Project (PROCCSE) provided a “Specialized Course on Air Cargo” between 15 and 20 October in Santo Domingo.
The training is intended to continue to strengthen the operational capabilities and know-how of airport security officers involved in combating illicit drug trafficking and related crime connected to air cargo.
Within the framework of AIRCOP, two Joint Airport Interdiction Task Forces (JAITFs) are currently operational in the Dominican Republic composed of members from all the security agencies of the country.
The Vice Minister of the Presidency, the President of DNCD and the Director of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC) were present at the event.
Also in attendance was the Spanish Ambassador, the Head of the European Union Political Section, the European Funding Officer and the First Advisor to the French Embassy.
Due to the excellent results obtained in operations and seizures at the two participating airports, it is expected that the project could be extended to other airports in the Dominican Republic.
