From 13 to 17 June 2022, the third regional training on the use of the Geoportal and the CENcomm took place in Montevideo, Uruguay, bringing together three of COLIBRI’s beneficiary countries: Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. 32 participants coming from Customs, Police, Gendarmerie, Air Force, Naval Prefecture, Civil Aviation, and National Directorates and Secretariats focused on combatting organised crime, explored the numerous features of the action’s IT tool: the Geoportal.
Participants were able to familiarise themselves with all the features available in the Platform, from mapping events such as seizures made and controls involving aircraft, to employing filters and layers to discover and analyse possible illegal runways. Its complementarity with the CENcomm, a tool for the secure exchange of messages in real time, was also explored during the 5-day activity.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Director General of Customs of Uruguay, Mr. Jaime Borgiani; the Secretary General of the National Drug Board of Uruguay, Mr. Daniel Radío; the Commander of the Air Operations Command of the Uruguayan Air Force, Brigadier General Mr. Alejandro O. Vilche; and the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section from the EU delegation in Uruguay, Mr. Tomas Pospisil. They all welcomed and supported the provision of the IT tools developed within the framework of COLIBRI.
