SEACOP-trained teams of the port of Montevideo have achieved a remarkable seizure at the end of September 2024.
Authorities of Uruguay reported the arrest of several people and simultaneous searches in Montevideo houses following the discovery of a fishing boat with a ton of cocaine, about to leave for the Atlantic.
“The operation was carried out after learning of the drug traffickers’ intentions to set sail with the cocaine, which, in all probability, was to be delivered to another vessel to be transported to Europe …”, an article by the Narcodiario reports them as saying.
The area around Montevideo has become a major departure point for cocaine shipments, which often arrive via the waterway that crosses several Latin American countries along the Paraná. To tackle this rising phenomenon, SEACOP recently launched the GRES-Atlántico-Sur, a police scheme with international support to tackle these drug transports.
