Around 300 Ecuadorian fishermen have been arrested in the last three years by foreign authorities for being involved in international drug-trafficking rings. According to the Ecuadorian authorities, the fishermen are now under the custody in the United States, Guatemala or Colombia.
The EMCDDA is currently developing estimates of the size of the drug market in the EU based on data provided routinely to the EMCDDA by National Focal Points. The report, named “Further Insights into the EU Drug Market”, will explore quantities of substances used by different groups of drug users, a key component of such market size estimates.
Honduras started cooperation with the Israel Aerospace Industries’ Elta for the purchase of radars that would intercept planes transporting narcotics from South America to Honduras. Honduran Army Chief of Staff Francisco Alvarez Urbina Isaiah reported that the radar is now in the implementation stage.

The Organization of American States established a new corruption-fighting commission in Honduras where mass demonstrations have been held weekly in 2015, requesting to install such a body. The Support Mission Against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH) was agreed under a convention signed a month ago in Washington by Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez and OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro.
The Polish Drug Policy Network organised a conference on urban drug policies in Warsaw, where participants adopted a new declaration which will be promoted at the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs by the Polish government.
