The Stakeholder Information Meeting on the EU Cocaine Route Programme of the Cocaine Route Programme (CRP) took place in Brussels on 4ht of November. Organised by DG DEVCO Unit B5 and by the Cocaine Route Monitoring and Support project (CORMS), the meeting was an opportunity to present the achievements of the Programme so far to representatives of partner countries in Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America, to EU Member States, as well as to colleagues from DEVCO, HOME, EEAS, Europol, the EMCDDA and MAOC-N. Halfway through the Programme, there have been significant advances in coordinating joint activities. The CRP is increasingly positioning itself as a platform to encourage south-south cooperation in the fight against transnational organised crime and drug trafficking.
Since 2009, under the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace, the European Union has committed almost €50 million on activities in 40 countries providing support, technical advice and building capacities in three main domains, notably the illicit manufacture of drugs and interception of their flows, the fight against money laundering and improvement of information sharing. A new component for supporting criminal investigation and criminal justice cooperation along the Cocaine Route is coming on stream in 2016.
