Nigeria’s president in office Muhammad Buhari won the 2019 election with 15.2 million votes compared with 11.3 million votes for his opponent. At the announcement of the results, the opposition party claimed that the vote was manipulated by the ruling party.
Iván Duque announced that the government of Colombia’s new security plan will not include negotiation with armed groups including the National Liberation Army (ELN). The new strategy puts an emphasis on intervention, supporting the military and the police in those areas of the country where crime and violence are highest.
Macky Sall was elected president of Senegal for a second term with 58.27% of the votes. The head of the European Union election observer group affirmed that the election was “calm and transparent”. The opposition party rejected the results but said they will not contest the vote.

After travelling across Latin America and looking for support, Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido is planning on returning to Venezuela to lead new protests against the government of Nicolas Maduro. Guaido, as a result of travel restrictions, risks being arrested if he returns to Caracas.
