The second Maritime Intelligence Unit Course organised under the framework of SEACOP – phase IV in Argentina was held from February 11 to 15 at the Superior Academy Facilities of the Naval Prefecture in Buenos Aires. At this occasion, the local authorities and SEACOP discussed the current situation of the project in the country. The MIU course was delivered by two key experts from the Spanish National Police and a non-key expert from the Guardia Civil. Fifteen students from the Naval Prefecture, the Federal Police and the Customs attended the training and participated to two practical exercises aimed at applying their knowledge. Overall, the course aimed to enhance regional cooperation with the aim of combatting regional maritime drug-trafficking and tackling the groups that are responsible for these activities. Interpersonal skills in the collection of sources, the use of databases and intelligence management and search methods on vessels were amongst the new topics introduced during the course. Overall, the feedback was positive, and the participants claimed that the training was beneficial to successfully carry out their duties.
