The Colombian authorities conducted a successful seizure, in close cooperation with the Spanish National Police and Customs, which resulted in the capture of one criminal and the confiscation of 322 kilograms of cocaine.
The operation took part within the framework of the “Estrategia Esmeralda” and within the framework of “Operation Tayrona” led by the Colombian National Police. SEACOP is a major partner of the Colombian authorities in these operations, which seek to support the fight against maritime drug trafficking from Latin America to Europe.
According to sources close to the investigation, the cocaine was hidden inside a painting machine manufactured solely for the concealed transport of the illicit substance. The inspection required the collaboration of the Operational Group of Technical Inspections -GOIT- of the Spanish National Police, which is an important partner for JMCU trainings in Latin America.
The European Border and Coast Guard Agency, FRONTEX, was closely involved in the case, which is a remarkable example of inter-agency cooperation in the field.
