This week, as part of the concluding activities of SEACOP V, Deputy Regional Coordinator for Africa Akizi-Egnim AKALA was in Togo 🇹🇬 to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the Joint Maritime Control Units (JMCUs) situated at Lomé Port.
During this pivotal assignment, Mr. Akala assessed the JMCUs’ organisational, logistical, and operational capacities.
💡 Over the past year, the country’s JMCUs underwent two successful training under SEACOP V.
“The main objective of this mission was to discern both the inherent strengths and the existing limitations within the units,” explained Mr Akala, noting that this strategic insight will prove instrumental in devising innovative approaches to bolster and sustain SEACOP’s crucial support to partner countries like Togo combating illicit maritime trafficking.
In line with SEACOP’s commitment to ensuring the safety of personnel in partner nations, the mission also served to deliver the JMCU members with SEACOP Personal Protective Equipment. Other essential electronic devices for rummages such ass gas analysers and portable radios were also delivered.
